Clouds from a clearing winter storm swirl over Mono Lake, a saline inland sea east of the Sierra Nevada crest in California. This lake was severely threatened by Los Angeles Department of Water and Power water diversions of inflowing streams, but due to a court order, the lake has slowly begun refilling.
