  • MONGOLIA. Enkhtuya Ragchaa, a 53-year-old shaman of the Tsaatan (Reindeer) people, now living on the west shore of Lake Hovsgol, in northern Mongolia.  She treats a variety of spiritual maladies caused by offenses against natural spirits, either by going into a trance or with natural herbs.  Her clients include local families and foreigners, alike.

Within weeks these pools will generate enough mosquitoes to drive both men and reindeer nearly insane, at which point they will migrate again to drier mountains further north.
